As a rule, I find that 2/0 blades are the best for most types of pearl work. They are fine enough to cut tight curves but not so fine as to tend to "wander" when cutting a straight line. However for Shell Laminate material, which due to its wafer-like construction, offers less resistance, I prefer to use 3/0 blades for the greater control they provide. Much finer blades are available - such as 6/0 and 8/0 - but I find that for general use these are difficult to control & that any advantages obtained are more than offset by the frequency with which they have to be replaced due to breakage.
